nel caso tu abbai un altro monitor (magari un pò più recente) , prova a collegarlo a quel pc e vedi se dà gli stessi problemi

se si presentano a questo punto credo sia la scheda video che non è degna per il pinguino

Non ho altri monitor purtroppo... Ho letto su un forum ubunutniano di ticchignare col programma xrandr... Proverò a dare un'occhiata... In caso ripasso di qui!

prima di tutto fatti una copia di backup dell'attuale xorg

ferma l'X (se no lo hai già fatto)

poi segui i passi che sono inseriti nella guida , relativi alla generaz<ione di un file xorg e di come ricopiarlo. poi fai ripartire il tutto

se non funziona ripristina l'org precedente invertendo il comando cp

Ho trovato un vecchio CD di Ubuntu Satanic Edition 8.04 e la live parte automaticamente a 1024x768:
=>non è un problema di scheda video, nè monitor (mi scuso se prima ho detto che altre distro non funzionavano, ma Ubuntu SE non ricordavo d'averlo provato)

Provata la Live di Sabayon 4.1 G: parte a 800x600 (nonostante prema F4 al boot e gli dia 1024x768x32) e da lì non si schioda

Possibile sia un problema di Sabayon??? Ma se Ubuntu SE rileva correttamente il monitor a 15" (la Live di Sabayon G rileva si, un LG, ma a 14") perchè Sabayon no?!... :----: :----: :----:

EDIT: ho recuperato il DVD di Sabayon 4.0 (quella uscita a Natale, NON la r1) e si è avviato a 832x624... Nonostante abbia dato 1024x768x32 al boot...

Spazzati via i drivers Intel e VESA, ho re-installato i VESA tramite emerge

a questo punto posso solo consigliarti di provare saba ed installarti un kernel precedente (esempio .28) e tutto quello che ne deriva

anche red aveva problemi (di instabilità) ed ha risolto con un kernel precedente.

se puoi fare questa prova... è forse l'ultima spiaggia (?)
